German authorities scrambled two Eurofighter jets and briefly shut Nuremberg Airport on Tuesday after a passenger flight from Greece transmitted a false hijack alert.
The aircraft, a Corendon Airlines Boeing 737-800 traveling from Corfu to Nuremberg, lost radio contact and triggered the emergency response. The airline attributed the alert to a communications malfunction.
The plane was escorted to a safe landing at Nuremberg and no hijacking took place.
