Two helicopters collided in mid-air near McMinnville Municipal Airport in Oregon on Thursday afternoon, the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office said.

Three people were killed in the crash, according to local authorities. One of the helicopters was a Robinson R22.

The collision closed all eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 233 about one mile west of Dayton.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
