Bristow Group, Electra, Avinor and the Civil Aviation Authority of Norway (CAA Norway) will conduct demonstration flights of Electra's hybrid-electric EL2 technology demonstrator at five locations across Norway.
The campaign will test the aircraft in three operating environments. Horvnes Quay near Sandnessjoen and Kongsbergporten Business Park will showcase operations from non-traditional landing sites without established runways, while Trondheim Airport and Oslo Airport will assess integration into larger airport ecosystems. Mosjoen Airport will serve as a representative short-runway airport in Northern Norway.
The EL2 is designed for ultra-short take-off and landing, able to operate from areas as short as 50 metres, combining electric propulsion with a turbogenerator powered by sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The partners will now develop the detailed test programme, obtain the necessary approvals and prepare the sites, with the first demonstration flight planned for the third quarter of 2027.
