American Airlines reported record third-quarter revenue of $16.34 billion, up 19.3 percent from a year earlier, but the carrier still posted a net loss of $269 million, or 41 cents per share, as higher jet fuel costs weighed on results.

The airline's fuel bill rose 67.5 percent in the third quarter to $4.64 billion, driven by a jump in jet fuel prices. On an adjusted basis, American lost 28 cents per share, beating the 35 cents that analysts had expected.

American cut its full-year outlook and now expects an adjusted loss of between $1.00 and $1.60 per share for 2026, after earlier forecasting a range from a loss of 65 cents to a profit of 65 cents. CEO Robert Isom said the company delivered record third-quarter revenue and its strongest year-over-year revenue growth.

For the fourth quarter, American forecast an adjusted loss of 50 cents to $1.10 per share, with revenue expected to rise as much as 22.5 percent. Executives also said the airline is closing in on a wide-body aircraft order and has considered the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Airbus A330 and Airbus A350.
