Lufthansa is retiring its Airbus A340-600 fleet, with the final passenger flight scheduled for Sunday, 18 October 2026. Flight LH419 will depart Washington Dulles (IAD) and arrive in Frankfurt (FRA) on the morning of 19 October.

Lufthansa took delivery of 24 A340-600 aircraft between 2003 and 2008, though only four have been flying in recent times. The airline had planned to retire the type at the start of the pandemic but kept the aircraft flying amid delivery delays with other jets.

The A340-600 is the longest variant of the A340 family and was once the world's longest aircraft before the Boeing 747-8 entered service. After Lufthansa's retirement, only Venezuela's Conviasa and Iran's Mahan Air are expected to operate the A340-600 on scheduled service.
