Boeing has disclosed a software glitch on some 737 Max aircraft that can affect automated vertical navigation functions after a missed approach, according to reports citing company documents.

The issue emerged after a cockpit software update and may occur when pilots change their planned flight path, potentially disabling an automated navigation feature used during the approach and landing phase.

Boeing notified 737 Max operators about the glitch in late August, saying it did not pose a safety risk, according to a company document viewed by The Wall Street Journal.

The manufacturer said it is working with airlines on a procedure to let pilots re-enable the automated navigation feature if needed, and is developing a software fix.
